Avoid antibiotics during the first 1,000 days

The use of antibiotics is very high in the V.S. as well as in Europe: Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

As a gut health therapist, pediadric therapist and mother of 3 I want to change this ASAP

Our current health system only looks at curing diseases.

We need a health system that focuses on disease prevention

WhealthyBaby is the first step towards this goal.

The bacteria a baby is colonised with during the first 1,000 days  will largely determine your child's health for the rest of their life.

More and more people have a disturbed gut flora;

this is at the root of almost all chronic diseases!

Over the past years, I saw people of all ages at my gut health practice. I saw how the most diverse complaints could improve simply by optimising digestion and gut fl🙏

With my unique online course ‘Whealthy Baby’, I aim to educate pregnant women on how to protect their baby's (gut) health.

Gut bacteria influence to a great extent:

  • weight
  • immunity
  • mood
  • sleep
  • skin health
  • intestinal health
  • digestion
  • intelligence
  • and so much more!

Fortunately, prevention during pregnancy costs a fraction of a Gut Health Therapy

Worldwide, there is plenty of research on the major influence of our gut bacteria on our entire functioning; there is still a lot to discover!

We can already exert targeted influence through gut therapy based on stool tests. Unfortunately, people sometimes do not have the budget for a comprehensive analysis, consultations and the necessary supplements.

Prevention is a lot cheaper than cure; and it can save your family a lot of stress, difficult nights and tears.

That's why I created the ‘Whealthy Baby’ course because:

‘Health is the New Whealth’

An important feature of a healthy gut flora is a high diversity; this means many different species.

Our gut bacteria produce so many important substances for us, such as hormones, neurotransmitters, vitamins, energy...

That's why it can have such an impact when the gut flora is lacking certain bacteria or when it is out of balance.

Over the past 50 years, we have already lost an average of 30% of our species!

This is due to our modern lifestyle:

  • too much refined sugar: the equivalent of 10,000 sugar cubes!
  • too little fibre causing our gut bacteria to starve
  • too little contact with bacteria through too much hygiene and too little probiotic food such as fermented vegetables, which we used to eat regularly until 2 generations ago
  • medication such as antibiotics, which attack the ‘bad’ bacteria as well as the ‘good’ bacteria. Antacids and NSAIDs are also unfavourable, for example.

I put inverted commas because just as there are no ‘wrong’ animals in nature, there are no ‘wrong bacteria’ in either. A fox is a useful animal; too many foxes: that's a problem.

To get your baby off to a good start, it can help enormously if you manage to avoid antibiotic use and take good care of your many tiny friends now.

The ‘Whealthy Baby’ course can help you with this 🙏

The birth of a gut 'flora' or 'microbiome'

"Before birth, the baby is basically sterile.

During a natural birth, your baby gets microbes transmitted through the birth canal and vagina.

At birth, while passing through the birth canal, a baby comes into contact with bacteria that play an important role in the development of the microbiome as well as immunity ."

After birth

"Through the skin and breastfeeding , beneficial bacteria, which play a major role in immune system development, can be passed on to the baby. Substances in breast milk feed these beneficial bacteria, which can help regulate the growth of potentially pathogenic bacteria. The development of gut flora can be affected by factors such as the method of birth (e.g. via caesarean section or vaginal birth), the type of feeding (breastfeeding versus bottle feeding), the introduction of solid foods, and the use of antibiotics and other drugs."

1 - 4 years old

"Around the 4th year of life, the gut flora approaches a mature composition.  For healthy diversity in the microbiome, it is important not to make the environment too sterile and to have sufficient exposure to various bacteria from the environment. This can be promoted by playing outside, ensuring a varied diet and by contact with pets or visiting the petting zoo."

During my research, I was very shocked by the antibiotic use during the important first 1,000 days!

 You read that right:

more than 40% of women get antibiotics at the crucial moment when her baby is about to be colonised with her bacteria!

That's about the worst possible timing....

In more than 99% of these women, this medication is used preventively.

A small group of babies have a problem otherwise.

No misunderstandings about this: every baby with a problem is one too many!  You don't want to be that one mum

Fortunately, there is a solution whereby women can optimise their microbiome during pregnancy, allowing for far fewer antibiotics. 🙏

Thus, we can protect babies from the possible effects of antibiotics during the first 1,000 days, allowing their immune system to develop naturally: this will benefit a child throughout life!

The use of antibiotics around birth and in the first thousand days can upset the balance of the microbiome, which hinders the development of the immune system and increases the risk of health problems and chronic diseases later in life.

Give your baby a healthy start!

By making sure before or during your pregnancy that you eat as healthily as possible, make up for any nutritional deficiencies and above all optimise your microbiome, you can ensure that your baby gets the best possible start

Antibioticaresistance: a global concern

Find out in this video in less than 2 minutes how quickly bacteria adapt and become resistant to antibiotics.

Nowadays, more and more babies are born with antibiotic-resistant strains.

The medication that today is used preventively in more than 99% of women during childbirth can help ensure that the percentage of babies who effectively have a - major - problem as a result of - among other things - a GBS infection will no longer be able to be helped.

In other words, our great-grandchildren will have to deal with antibiotic-resistant bacteria where no medicine will be able to help them if we continue to use this medication in this way.

antibiotics literally means ‘against life’

probiotics literally means ‘for life’

For all our precious children,

with love,
